Tim Platt is an award-winning photography and video artist based at his studio in Kennington, London. Tim recently won first prizes in the prestigious International Photography Awards in 2022 and 2023, and the Fine Art Photography Awards 2024 for his Botanical Optical abstract floral art series, and his macro flower portraits series. His career has always been driven by his diverse personal creative practice, which ranges from stylised animal portraiture to abstract floral art. The Botanical Opticals series of stills and immersive 4K audiovisual installations, evolved from ideas explored while shooting timelapse films of flowers. He arranged these clips into kinetic patterns to create mesmerising symmetrical effects. The repetitions multiply and invert, while the time-lapse video of the flower is also constantly opening and closing to create an infinite variety of permutations. These symmetrical floral mandala patterns promote a sense of relaxation and well-being. Inspired by nature, they are beautiful images to focus on and resonate with a calm and balanced energy. They provide visually stimulating focal points of pattern and colour in domestic or commercial spaces. The mandala pattern is an ancient decorative symmetrical motif used for centuries to represent the universe, particularly in Eastern religions. He exhibited his Botanical Opticals project with an immersive multimedia solo exhibition in the Crypt Gallery in Norwich in 2021.
